An International drivers licence is valid for one year in the UK, if you are staying in the UK for more than  one year and you wish to drive you will need to do the UK Theory and Practical Driving tests.

At intensivecourses.co.uk we seem to have had a big increase in clients from America and other overseas countries applying to do our intensive driving courses to get them ready for the driving test.

The first thing you will need to do is apply for your provisional driving licence from the DVLA, click on the link and this will take you to the DVLA website: www.direct.gov.uk

If you are doing your driving lessons with us, once you have recieved the provisional driving licence from the DVLA we will  apply on your behalf for the thoery test and practical driving tests and get an instructor in place for you  We will also get you a driving test in a much shorter time than the DSA's normal waiting list.  Normally within 2 weeks of passing your theory test.  Just give us a call on our freephone number above.

If you wish to apply for the theory and practical  driving test yourself,  you will need to wait until you have recieved the provisional driving licence from the DVLA and then just click on the following link: http://www.dft.gov.uk/dsa to first book your theory test. The DSA have many fantastic books and CD ROMs with which you can study. Once you have passed your theory test you can then apply to do your driving test.  Driving test waiting times vary from 6 to 14 weeks dependant on the test centre you choose.

If you have been driving in the UK on your driver permit you will not need as many lessons as someone just starting out but it is advisable that you get professional driving lessons to get rid of any bad habits and to try out a couple of the driving test routes beforehand so that you understand how the driving test works.

We hope this artical has been usefull.  If you have any questions or just need advice just call us on our free phone number and we will be very happy to help.
